Browsing through a demo of Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+, the most striking thing about it is the stark contrast with its biggest competitor: Netflix. Where Netflix is overflowing with content trying to catch subscribers’ attention, Disney+ feels comparatively barren. Like Apple TV’s library of apps, Disney’s service is almost surgically clean in its design precision. But the specific ways its content is compartmentalized might be divisive.
The density difference makes sense: in 2018, Netflix had approximately 1,570 TV shows and 4,000 movies available for streaming. At launch, Disney+ will have approximately 500 movies and 7,000 individual TV episodes. But whereas Netflix can feel like disorganized chaos, every section of...

Waymo is operating its self-driving ride-hailing service in two cities: Phoenix, with some paying customers and some riding for free, and San Francisco and the surrounding towns, with just employees as passengers. A majority of riders leave positive feedback about their experiences riding in Waymo’s robot taxis, but there are still some notable complaints, according to internal data reviewed by The Information.
The Information reviewed feedback on 10,500 trips that took place in July and August. Those comments are left by anonymous passengers through Waymo’s mobile app. Most of the rides — 6,100 — took place in the suburbs of Phoenix, with the rest occurring in the Bay Area. Of those 10,500 trips, 70 percent received the highest rating...

Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg has surpassed 100 million subscribers on YouTube, becoming the first individual creator to do so.
Kjellberg has been one of the most successful creators in the platform’s history, shaping what happens on the site and extending his reach into a book deal, talk show appearances, and sponsorships. But his fame has been hampered by controversies like using racist language and anti-Semitic imagery.
The subscriber milestone arrived nearly nine years after the publication of Kjellberg’s first video, though his rise has been particularly sharp and turbulent in the last year: his channel grew rapidly from around 65 million subscribers last August as...

It seems like most fast-food chains are getting in on the fake meat trend. Beyond Meat and KFC announced today that they’re testing fried plant-based nuggets and boneless wings — Beyond Fried Chicken — at one Atlanta location on August 27th. Customers will receive a free sample when they purchase something that day, and KFC will ask for their feedback. Their thoughts will “be considered as KFC evaluates a broader test or potential national rollout,” KFC tells Bloomberg.
Multiple fast-food restaurants have tested and implemented plant-based food options on their menus recently. Burger King rolled out its Impossible Whopper to all of its US stores, and Subway announced plans to test the Beyond Meatball Marinara in 685 restaurants in the US...

The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo will be available in the US starting on September 6th. It’s releasing two configurations, priced at $2,499 and $2,999. Both machines have the model’s signature “ScreenPadPlus” touchscreen above the keyboard, an Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card, a Thunderbolt 3 port, a 1TB NVMe SSD, and an OLED screen.
The two models differ when it comes to the processor, RAM, and display, however. The high-end model has Intel’s Core i9-9980HK CPU, 32GB of DDR4 2,666MHz RAM, and a 4K display, while the cheaper laptop uses an Intel Core i7-9750H processor, has 16GB of DDR4 2,666MHz RAM, and a more pedestrian FHD panel.
In case you missed out on the original announcement, this isn’t your standard laptop. It has two 4K displays: a...

Are you the fast-talking, fast-emailing CEO of a construction firm who occasionally needs to visit building sites? Are you a hotshot Wall Street trader who is terrified of getting lost in the woods? Are you presently on an oil rig, and you want to write a novel on a pocket-sized device? If the answer to any of these questions is “yes,” then wow, does Unihertz have the phone for you.
If the answer to all of them is “no,” then, well, maybe not. But that doesn’t stop this prerelease Unihertz Titan from being one of the most delightfully weird phones I’ve used all year.
Unihertz is a small Chinese company whose previous phones, the Jelly and the Atom, were tiny Android devices with 2.45-inch screens that are designed for situations where you...

By the time December rolls around, the beginning of the year can be a blur.
Twelve months is a long time, and it’s easy to forget what happened yesterday, so you’d be forgiven for losing track of something from months ago. This is especially problem with lists that gather together the best entertainment from a particular year — whether it’s movies, games, or music — and end up jam-packed with experiences released in the later months.
To get around this, we’ve created this landing page dedicated to all the best games of 2019. It’s not a list that we labor over at the end of the year; instead, think of it as a living document, one that will continue to grow as new games come out and delight us. That way we won’t forget anything.
Luckily,...

People who used HBO Now to watch Game of Thrones know the struggle of having the system overload and crash. Michael Paull, president of Disney’s streaming services and former CEO of BAMTech (the technology that powered HBO Now for years), is thinking about that as Disney+ prepares to launch.
Disney is pouring all of its resources into promoting its streaming service. One of the biggest booths on the floor at D23, the company’s biennial convention for fans, is dedicated to Disney+. Live demos and trivia draw in excited fans who are clamoring around to get a first look at Disney’s answer to Netflix. Credit cards at the ready, people are signing up for their discounted bundles (D23 attendees can get three years of Disney+ for $140 — a...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will conclude the current Star Wars trilogy, and a new trailer showcased at Disney’s D23 Expo teases what that end looks like. And now, Disney has posted it online for everyone to see.
The trailer opens with footage from all nine Star Wars films. A voiceover from Luke declares that there have been “a thousand generations, but this is your fight.” Rey, Poe, and Finn are preparing for the biggest fight of their life. Battleships tear through the skies, as Rey and Kylo Ren meet in the middle of a war-torn planet, ready to fight. The best bit of all? Rey is wielding a red, double-sided lightsaber.
This new trailer comes just a couple of months after Lucasfilm debuted the first one at Star Wars Celebration...
